At the Laserinstitute Hochschule Mittweida I use microscopes and lasers to investigate biological processes on the level of single molecules. We concentrate on ribonucleic acids (RNA) - a central building block of life. In order to investigate structural dynamics (kinetics) of RNA, we label them with fluorescent dyes (usually Cy dyes) and follow the so-called Förster resonance energy transfer, a physical effect which enables to measure distance changes on the nanometer scale. Beside our sofisticated experiments, I love to develop data analysing strategies for smFRET data and beyond; this was eventually leading to our software package MASH-FRET available on github: https://rna-fretools.github.io/MASH-FRET/. In addition to my research, teaching (basic physics, data science, biophotonics and biophysics) is a central part of my work at the University of Applied Sciences Mittweida.
